Document 85C: Elayne DeLott, poem, "Spirit and Will," May 1965, Elaine DeLott Baker Papers, Schlesinger Library, Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University.

Introduction

This last poem is a witness to the painful metamorphosis of the child becoming a woman.

Spirit and Will

Spirit and Will
Burst the child
for the woman
edges jagged

Spirit and Will
the child ripped
and torn edged
hardened jagged
in the woman
