How Did Women Shape the Presentation of Norwegian American Ethnicity at the 1925 Norse-American Centennial?
Abstract
This project analyzes the work of Norwegian American women in the 1920s to help organize a national celebration marking the centennial of immigration from Norway. The documents illuminate how these women's experiences as activists and as ethnics contributed to the construction of a gendered Norwegian American identity that sometimes countered the identity promoted by the male organizers of the celebration.
