SENECA FALLS SOUTH

WHAT IS IT?

…the public assembly area of the National Women's Conference. An area devoted to entertainment by and for women. An arts center. A place for open debate and discussion among all conference-goers.

WHERE IS IT?

…The Albert Thomas Convention Center, Houston Upper Level, West Hall

WHEN IS IT?

…continuous programs will be offered all day Saturday, November 19th and Sunday, November 20th in several different areas simultaneously. Highlights follow. A map is attached.

This area is named for Seneca Falls, New York, the site of an 1848 conference of American women. At the 1848 conference, a Declaration of Sentiments was passed which set forth the principles of women's equality.

In 1923, another history-making gathering was held at Seneca Falls to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first women's meeting. By then, women had achieved the right to vote; but there was much left to accomplish. In 1923, at Seneca Falls, the late Alice Paul of the National Women's Party offered the proposal that women be made equal under the law.

Seneca Falls South commemorates the history of the women's movement. It will reflect the energy and excitement which has been characteristic of the movement for more than 100 years.
